Welcome to the ecovillage of Hjortshøj !

"We have been experimenting with new ways of life and with sustainable solutions for more than 25 years, and we want to share these experiences with others."

We believe that the cooperative village of Hjortshøj, since its creation in 1992, has been and remains a living laboratory for a sustainable way of life, and therefore a source of inspiration for society as a whole for a sustainable future.

The cooperative village of Hjortshøj is located 15 km north-east of Aarhus and overhangs the bay. This eco-village was founded in 1986 and the first group moved in in 1992.

The aim was and is still to build a local community with an organic social cohesion, and thus which can test for new environmental initiatives and new forms of social communities inspired by the rest of society. Today, 300 people live in eight housing groups.

* Organic solidarity :

Concept developed by French sociologist Emile Durkheim (1858-1917).
According to him, solidarity corresponds to the invisible links that bind people together and make society "hold": it is the "cement" of society.
While traditional societies are characterized by mechanical solidarity, a form of social cohesion based on similarity, modern societies are instead based on complementarity and cooperation between individuals: everyone needs others, such as organs in a body.
